LV ejection fraction — Teichholz

Ejection fraction from linear LV internal dimensions by the Teichholz method. Unreliable when there are regional wall-motion abnormalities.

Enter height and weight to derive BSA for indexed results (AVA index, cardiac index). Stays in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.

EF = 63%

Teichholz — assumes a symmetric ellipsoid; do not use with regional dysfunction

Worked steps

  1. Teichholz volumes

    EDV = 7/(2.4+5.2)×5.2³ = 130 mL; ESV = 47 mL

  2. Ejection fraction

    EF = (EDV − ESV) ÷ EDV = 63%

Reference: Teichholz (1976). ASE/BSE now discourage linear EF; biplane Simpson's is preferred when endocardial definition allows.
